WHTI – Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative
On June 1, 2009, the U.S. government implemented the full requirements of the land and sea phase of WHTI. The proposed rules require U.S. & Canadian citizens entering the United States at sea or land ports of entry to have a passport, passport card , or WHTI-compliant document (Enhanced Drivers Licence)
WHTI is the reason behind the RealID act in the United States, and is the reason behind the Photocard Bill 85 here in Ontario and many other provinces in Canada.
If you look into WHTI you will find that it is based off of the recommendations of the 9/11 commission report. We all know the 9/11 report was full of lies and now our own policies and standards in Canada are being harmonized by this report at the request of Homeland Security in the United States.
In Canada there was a string of “Mayors meetings” to discuss this new policy the United States was presenting. If you read some of the comments the Mayors made during this series of meetings, their focus was mainly on how this will effect cross-border shopping!
So in the interest of cross-border shoppping, and going over for a quick bite to eat, we are now being phased into an Enhanced Drivers Licence System dictated to us by the United States. This system will ensure all drivers and non drivers in Canada are in the database.
I say this because the new licences would only be acceptable for land crossing, for air travel you will still be required to have a passport.
Next read up on the Smart Borders Act. You will see how they will be using this database to slot you into a threat category. Where will they be getting this information from? What access do they have over your public records?, What access do they have over your private records? All that is mentioned in the Smart Borders Act as well.
Some Americans are calling this a defacto National ID card, Some canadians have mentioned that too. However, the plan is much bigger than a National ID – How about a global ID! According to the United Nations, The new ID’s are being designed to implement a universal framework so that your Canadian, Amercian ID will be compatible world wide!
All this so we can go to the states for wings and beer? I think not..
